Submitting Your Website to the 6 Top Search Engine Directories

Apart from promoting your website by article marketing, it is advisable to submit it to major search engine directories such as Google and Yahoo. An index is a database of websites in which the search results are based on the description of your website when you submit your website and not the contents of the website. It is different from search engines as search engines will search through most of your website including the contents and titles. Most people will submit to Google, and Yahoo is another major index that should be considered as well.

Yahoo! Directory

Yahoo search results come primarily from their own search engine. Yahoo has an Index known as Yahoo Directory. Currently, Yahoo search results are combinations from the directory ad search engines. This increases the rank of your website if it is listed in the directory. Previously, if one searches using Yahoo, the results displayed first are from the search engine and followed by from the directory. Owned by AOL, it is the largest free active Internet Directory. The Open Directory Project is a definitive directory and is referred to by all major search engines. Due to this reason, there is a large number of website owners who are waiting to be listed in this directory. Thus, one may have to wait up to 6 months before his website is listed. There are some guidelines provided for those who are interested to submit their websites into this directory.

LookSmart Directory

This is actually a directory based on pay-per-click service. Although it is not very definitive in terms of volume of click and position, your website may be promoted well because this directory is providing the main results for MSN.

GoGuides.org

A free directory but you will have to apply for the position of an editor to be able to submit your website to this directory. But, once you are accepted, your URL link is online immediately.

JoeAnt.com

Similar to GoGuides.org, you will have to become the editor in order to submit your website.

Zeal.com

Similar to GoGuides.org and JoeAnt.com, you must become the editor or ask another editor to submit your website. The rule is your website must be informational and non-commercial.

It is up to you to choose whether to submit to all major search engine directories or only those that are free. It is advisable to use free search engine directories until your website is stable in earning income. Look and ask around for professional advices if you are still in doubt.
